|
Mike Zarlengo graduated in 2004 and he certainly left his mark on the
Niwot Baseball program. Mike was the winning pitcher in the 2004 State
Championship game. In total Mike played for 3 State Championship
teams while at Niwot. His 2003 and 2004 Legion A teams also won the
State Title with the 2004 team also winning the Western Regional
Tournament.
Mike was a 4 year varsity player. His Freshman year Mike clocked an
amazing 81 MPH and earned his first varsity start. From that point on
Mike would be the focal point of some great pitching staffs.
In 2003 and 2004 the pitching staff at Niwot led the state in ERA with Mike leading the way. Mike's senior
year he posted a record of 10-0 with a 1.72 ERA and 70 strikeouts in only 53 innings. Those stats are
rivaled only by his 9 home runs with 4 of those coming in post season play. During the state tournament
Mike came through time and time again at the plate putting 2 of the final 5 games away with long blasts
over the left field fence.
After graduating Mike briefly attended Dixie State JC in Utah before landing at College of the Desert in
Palm Springs, CA. Mike was named All Foothills Conference after both his Freshman and Sophomore
seasons. His performance earned him a spot on the University of Northern Colorado squad. Mike sat out
the 2007 season with an injury but will play for the Bears in 2008.
