Niwot Baseball Former Player Michael Moat 2000 Graduate
|
Michael Moat may stand alone as the only Colorado High School pitcher ever
to be the winning pitcher in 3 State Championship games. During the 1998,
1999, and 2000 seasons Mike was the backbone of one of the best pitching
staffs in Colorado history. His 90+ MPH fastball led the Cougars to their first 3
State Championships. Mike was All-Conference, All-State, and even Honorable
Mention All-American his senior year. Mike was drafted in the 11th round by
the Texas Rangers out of high school but decided to attend college instead.
Mike chose San Diego State and was coached there by Tony Gwynn. While at San Diego State Moat was
named to the Freshman All-American Team in 2001. In 2002 his Alaska summer team won the NBC World
Series. Moat threw 10 1/3 innings in the series striking out 10. In addition he was rated as having the
best amateur fastball in the Western Region of the United States.
After his senior season Moat was drafted once again. This time in the 19th round by the Chicago White
Sox. Moat had a successful 2005 season and is looking to continue the early season success that he
had last year.
