Niwot Baseball Former Player Mike
Hoog 1986 Graduate
Michael Hoog was the first truly dominant player to play at Niwot High School.  Not only did Hoog excel at
the plate hitting 22 homers one summer season, but he racked up a school record 27 victories on the
mound his last three years.

During his High School career Hoog's teams won the conference title in both 1985 and 1986.  The 1985 CBL
team even won the State Championship.  During Hoog's time at NHS the team participated in the 3A level
which at the time was the largest classification.

Hoog was named All Conference, All County, and All State in 1984, 1985, and 1986.   Hoog is thought to be
the only Cougar ever to be named All State 3 times.  In line with his competitive nature Hoog also played
football for NHS.

Hoog having been drafted by the New York Mets in the 19th round decided to attend college. After
graduating Mike went on to not only play at the University of North Carolina, but to set many school
records.  Mike compiled a 30-14 record pitching for UNC.  Hoog still holds the career records for Wins,
Strikeouts, Innings Pitched, and Starts at UNC.

After his four years at UNC Hoog went on to pitch in the Atlanta Braves system for two years.  He then got
his feet wet as the pitching coach at Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C.

Hoog is currently an Attorney/CEO for Corporate Advocates, Public & Government Relations in Denver
Colorado.  Mike and his wife Kim live in Longmont and they have two promising baseball players Tyler &
Thomas, ages 13 & 11.

Though Mike still roots for Niwot Baseball most of the time he is now the Head Coach at Skyline High
School.  Chances are the rivalry with Skyline will become more intense now that Hoog is on the other side.
