The Cougars said farewell to the 2012 season and Senior Ryan Sypher at the Niwot Baseball end of season banquet held at the Dicken's Tavern and Opera House in Longmont. Thanks to Mary Sypher, George Sypher, Christine Kirkpatrick, Lisa Plunkett, and Rhonda Beaupre for planning the banquet.

In the final game of the 2012 season the Cougars battled Greely Central for 7 innings but came up short in the end 6 - 5. Bryan Meek pitched 5 strong innings giving up only 1 earned run, and striking out 5. Meek was also 3 for 3 at the plate, with an RBI and a run scored.

The Cougars finally broke out the bats at home against Greely Central, scoring 9 runs on 14 hits, but unfortunately for Niwot, Greeley Central broke them out in a big way scoring 21 runs on 18 hits. Jake Sarosi and Danny Caruso both went 3 for 4 for Niwot, Sarosi with a homerun and Carsuso with a triple.

Senior Ryan Sypher was honored for Senior Day as the lone Cougar Senior on the 2012 squad. Unfortuantely the Cougars were unable able to get the bats going against visiting Thompson Valley and fell 12 - 0.

The Cougars traveled to Loveland to take on Thompson Valley Thursday, but struggled at the plate and lost 11 - 1. The Cougars were only able to manage 2 hits, by Jake Sarosi and Pate Katechis, and Katechis had the only RBI for Niwot.

The Cougars rebounded from a tough stretch to beat cross-town rival Silver Creek 8 - 3 at Silver Creek. Sophomores Bryan Meek and Alex Kinnison combined to hold the Raptors to 3 runs on 4 hits and had 6 strikeouts. The Cougars bats came to life and banged out 11 hits. Leading the charge was Senior Ryan Sypher going 3 for 3 with an RBI. Also driving in runs for the Cougars was Bryan Meek (2), Tanner Morris, Jake Sarosi and Bryan Hawthorne.

Niwot's April 9th game against Broomfield is being featured on Comcast On Demand. On Comcast go to OnDemand and select Your Colorado, then CET, then CET Sports, and then HS Baseball. Niwot V Broomfield should then be in the list. The game is also being Broadcast on Comcast channel 105, at 3pm on Sunday 4/15.

Niwot's hitting problems continued, and Broomfield's hitters made the most of their 11 hits to score 14 runs and defeat the Cougars 14 - 1. Tanner Morris, Bryan Meek, and Cam Kopplinger each had 2 hits for the Cougars.

The Cougars bats where unable to get going against Broomfield, and the Eagles pounded out 15 hits to run rule Niwot 10-0 in 6 innings. Ryan Sypher, Bryan Meek, and Danny Caruso had the only hits for the Cougars. Niwot gets a second chance at Broomfield when they host the Eagles at home on Monday.

Niwot hosted Longmont for the 2nd game of the season series. The Trojans jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Cougars continued to scratch away and hit the ball hard, but were unable to come up with the big innning and lost 11 - 4. Jake Sarosi had 2 triples for the Cougars to lead the offense, and Tanner Morris drove in 2 of the Cougars' runs. Bryan Meek added 2 hits and pitched 3 innings giving up no runs, no hits and striking out 5.

The Cougars Jake Sarosi struck out 11 and the team pounded out 11 hits, but fell short in the bottom of the 7th inning and lost to the Higley Arizona Knights 9 - 8. Niwot tied the game in the top of the 7th, on a RBI triple by Tanner Kirkpatrick. Bryan Hawthorne had 3 more hits to raise his team leading average to .615. Alex Kinnison and Jake Sarosi both had 2 RBI for the Cougars.

Niwot faced Lowell High School from San Francisco in the 2nd game of the Arizona Spring Break trip. The Cougars bats didn't deliver the big hits with runners on base and Niwot fell 5 - 1. Bryan Hawthorne got his first start of the season from the mound and held the game close.

The Cougars started out spring break by getting back on the winning track in Arizona. Niwot had 11 hits and defeated Chandler, AZ 10 - 5. Bryan Hawthorne and Jake Sarosi each had 2 hits and Ryan Sypher, Alex Kinnison, and Tanner Morris had 2 RBI for the Cougars. Pate Katchis had his first start of the season and only gave up 3 hits to the Chandler hitters. Cameron Kopplinger came in for the Cougars in relief and held Chandler to 3 hits and only 1 run.

Niwot traveled to Coors Field home of Colorado Rockies to take on crosstown rival the Skyline Falcons. The Cougars pounded out 12 hits but were unable to capitalize on all of their opportunities and the Falcons used small ball to outscored Niwot 8 - 4. Danny Caruso was 3 for 4 at the plate, and Bryan Hawthorne and Tanner Kirkpatrick both had 2 hits for the Cougars.

The Cougars battled for 7 innings against Mountain View but came up
short 2 - 1. Jake Sarosi had 9 strikeouts in 5 innings of work, but the Cougars bats were held in check by the Mountain View pitcher, Brandon Baeckel, who is a Texas Tech signee. Junior Bryan Hawthorne had 2 hits for Niwot to lead the offense.

Junior Tanner Morris pitched a complete game and held Mountain View to 2 runs and Niwot pounded out 12 hits on route to a 4-2 victory. Sophomore Tanner Kirkpatrick dealt the deciding blow with a single up the middle driving in the 2 go ahead runs and was 3 for 3 on the night.

On a beautiful March day in Colorado the Niwot Cougars completed their sweep of the Centaurus Warriors, with a 10 - 2 victory. Jake Sarosi pitched five innings giving up only 1 run, and went 3 for 3 at the plate, with a homerun and 2 RBI.

On August 28, 2011 Skyline Junior Tyler Hoog was in a serious off-road accident. Tyler's injuries have left him paralyzed from the shoulders down. Tyler's father Mike Hoog is the Skyline baseball head coach and former Niwot Cougar baseball player. Tyler's recovery and rehab will be a long difficult process and he needs support and love from the entire Niwot baseball family.
